CogIST Event Organizing Process and Application Criteria
How to Organize an Event at CogIST?
CogIST is a platform of production and sharing that reflects the interdisciplinary nature of cognitive science. Built around theoretical, experimental, and applied interests in the nature of the human mind, we value coming together through various event formats such as seminars, talks, workshops, interviews, and training sessions.
If you would like to organize an event under the CogIST umbrella or propose an idea as a speaker or organizer, you can contact us with a brief proposal outlining your event's content and main purpose in a few paragraphs. Your proposal will be reviewed by our editorial team based on how well it aligns with CogIST's goals and principles, and you will receive feedback regarding format, timing, and technical feasibility.
What Kinds of Events?
CogIST welcomes a variety of event formats, including but not limited to:
- Academic seminars
- Talks and interviews
- Workshops
- Book or article reading groups
- Educational or introductory presentations
- Conceptual or thematic event series
- Interdisciplinary discussions
We can plan the event together according to its type, duration, and target audience. You may also frame your proposal within one of CogIST’s ongoing series, such as:
Akademi Kognisyon, Açık Kognisyon, Neuroscience Days, Cognitive Debate, In Memoriam, Kognitif WikiMarathon, Book Cognition, and Reading Club.
Events may be free or paid depending on their format and audience. In paid events, a portion of the revenue may be shared with the speaker and/or organizer.
What Kind of Content Can Events Include?
As long as they are relevant to cognitive science, CogIST events may address a wide range of content and formats, such as:
- Current theoretical or experimental issues in subfields of cognitive science
- Philosophical, psychological, linguistic, or AI-related topics from interdisciplinary perspectives
- Academic reading groups, methodology workshops, technical tool training
- Inclusive sessions aimed at participants from outside academia
Events can be held online or in-person (especially in Istanbul). The event language may be Turkish or English.
We expect proposals to:
- Be directly or indirectly relevant to cognitive science
- Clearly define the topic and scope
- Adopt an interdisciplinary outlook when possible
- Maintain academic rigor while remaining accessible
- Prioritize interaction and collaborative knowledge sharing
Who Can Propose Events?
Academics, researchers, undergraduate or graduate students, independent scholars, or anyone with relevant experience can propose events through CogIST. We particularly encourage early-career scholars and researchers with original ideas and perspectives to contribute.
You don’t need to be an academic—anyone engaged in intellectual production or consistent study related to the field is welcome to propose. Alignment with CogIST’s core framework (cognitive science and related areas) is essential.
In addition to individual applications, communities, NGOs, companies, universities, or high school clubs are also welcome to reach out for collaboration.
How Does the Event Process Work?
If your proposal is approved, we will plan a suitable date and technical setup and schedule the event accordingly. CogIST events may be recorded, announced via social media, and archived. We also provide support such as poster design, pre-event announcements, and registration forms as needed.
Important Points to Know Before Submitting a Proposal:
- The topic should align with CogIST’s areas of interest (especially cognitive science).
- A scientifically rich yet clear and accessible communication style is encouraged.
- The content should be adapted to an audience with varying levels of familiarity.
You are welcome to contact us beforehand to discuss format, content scope, or technical needs.
Application Process
To submit a proposal, please send a short email to info.cogist@gmail.com including the following details:
- Event title
- Brief event description (purpose, content, audience, etc.)
- Suggested date or date range
- Event format (online/in-person, seminar/workshop, paid/free, etc.)

Once we receive your application, we’ll evaluate the content and contact you. Together, we’ll plan the details of the event delivery, technical requirements, promotion, and participant access.
Even if you're still in the idea stage, feel free to get in touch. We can help assess whether your idea aligns with CogIST and co-develop the content if needed.
